like date, name or keywords and now, even faces. One of my favorite features
of iPhoto are the photo montages which allow you to select a style of
presentation with accompanying music. These look great and are a nice way to
view your photos and reminisce on the past. However, I dislike the way iPhoto
has to build a library file of your photos. If you've already got several GB
of photos on your system, you don't want another huge iPhoto file taking up
space on your hard drive. Of course, iPhoto is also very well integrated into
other Apple apps such as iDVD so your iPhoto images can easily be used in
videos that you're editing. Displaying photos in full screen mode isn't as
simple as it should be however - it involved way too many clicks and its hard

Readability (Firefox) 2.1-Make online articles easier to read

Colin McRae: DiRT 2-Superb rally cross game for Mac
*Colin McRae: DiRT 2* for Mac is an excellent rally racing game which
recreates all the excitement of rallying. Colin McRae: DiRT 2 sees you take
on the best circuits in the world in competition racing or time challenges.
The graphics are excellent and collisions in particular are very realistic.
It's definitely a step-up from Race Driver: GRID. The gameplay is also
excellent, although it's not easy to master at first. The soundtrack and
music complement the game perfectly alongside your co-pilot who tries to
guide you with hints and tip about how to take corners and precarious parts
of the course. The main HQ in Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is a motor home where you
have access to all of the games features. The game includes many events, the
ability to purchase new cars with the competition money you earn and compete
on dirt circuits etc. There's also a an online multiplayer mode. *A steering
wheel would help you get a lot more out of the game and the keyboard controls
aren't great in Colin McRae: DiRT 2 but overall, it's an excellent racing

Sleeping Dogs Preview-Explore the Hong Kong underworld
*Sleeping Dogs*' development history is pretty well known. Developed by
United Front Games and scheduled for release through Activision, the game was
cancelled and brought back to life by Square Enix. Visually, Sleeping Dogs
contains both the clean and dirty look of Hong Kong. The on-foot level took
place in the streets and back alleys off the main street. With a lot of
non-playable characters (NPC) bringing the area to life, it was possible to
hear a lot of background chatter and noise. The environment felt real. There
was a lot of detail and background action, making the area feel alive. The
actual graphics of Sleeping Dogs are *stylized reality*. Featuring an Asian
protagonist, Sleeping Dogs had the possibility of using character models that
were cut and paste with slight variations. But from playing the game, all the
characters do have unique appearances. It was hard to tell with NPCs, but the
primary and secondary characters all have a great amount of detail. One
aspect of the level that stuck out was the lighting of the game. The darkness
was cut with streetlights or neon signs and they reflected off surfaces in
realistic ways. *Combat* The first section of the Sleeping Dogs demo featured
a chase sequence ending in two fights. Chasing the target through the back
streets required avoiding NPCs or barreling through them. When it comes to
jumping over gates or vendor booths, the action is fast-paced and not that
difficult to complete, but the experience is satisfying. Combat gameplay is
influenced by Batman: Arkham Asylum. Square Enix's London Studio assisted
with Batman: Arkham Asylum and are helping United Front Games. Combat is a
mixture of weak and strong attack combinations and counters. But Sleeping
Dogs' *combat felt a lot more organic*. The enemies still crowd and wait to
take cheap shots, but it isn't as predictable. The rooftop level also
allows you to use the environment. There were a lot of options on the roof
like an air conditioner or trash chute. The animations are slightly
over-the-top, but the action is satisfying. Sleeping Dogs may be influenced
by Batman: Arkham Asylum, but feels independent and adds more martial arts
into each attack. It's also possible to jump kick. Jump kicking felt really
gratifying! *Racing* The other part of the Sleeping Dogs demo was a race.

Aperture 3.2.3-A better way to refine your images
If you ask about a photo editor for Mac, most people will recommend iPhoto.
But if you're looking for something else, you should probably skip to
Aperture. Aperture could be defined as 'iPhoto on steroids'. It's a complete
photo organizer and viewer, easy enough for the amateur, but with the
powerful tools that any advanced user would need. Plus it features a
comfortable interface that hardly takes a few minutes to get used to.
Aperture lets you import images from various resources (including your photo
camera), organize them in an intuitive way and optimize or fix them if
necessary. When ready, sit back and enjoy them in a fullscreen slideshow, or
use them in various creative projects such as a book, an album or a web
gallery. When I said Aperture was a bit like iPhoto, I wasn't exaggerating.
This new version includes Faces, the popular facial recognition technology
implemented in the last version of iPhoto. But Aperture goes a step beyond
and also includes Places, another special technology that geolocates your
images using the information stored in metadata by some cameras. However, I
have to say that this feature wasn't working properly: the map took ages to
load and controls were over-sensitive – which made map navigation a real
pain. It even caused a program crash while testing it. Besides these
organizational features, Aperture includes a bunch of interesting tools to
enhance your pics. You can tweak the image's balance, exposure, color and
light values, levels and more with easy-to-use slides. The so-called
Adjustment presets let you apply quick, frequent fixes to images in just two
clicks. Finally, the all-new precision brushes help you fix the problem with
extraordinary accuracy. Other features in Aperture I found specially
interesting were the possibility to share your images online in MobileMe,
Facebook and Flickr right from the program, and to create printed copies of
your photos – which always works as a nice present for grandma. Aperture is
an excellent photo application, there's no doubt about that. But in a way I
felt disappointed when testing this new version. I expected to have more
editing and drawing tools, and – why not – support for layers and masks.
I found the controls uncomfortable and hard to manage, and my overall
impression was one of disappointment. Aperture is a powerful photo organizer
and viewer that includes a handful of features to view, fix, optimize,

Aperture. Aperture could be defined as 'iPhoto on steroids'. It's a complete
photo organizer and viewer, easy enough for the amateur, but with the
powerful tools that any advanced user would need. Plus it features a
comfortable interface that hardly takes a few minutes to get used to.
Aperture lets you import images from various resources (including your photo
camera), organize them in an intuitive way and optimize or fix them if
necessary. When ready, sit back and enjoy them in a fullscreen slideshow, or
use them in various creative projects such as a book, an album or a web
gallery. When I said Aperture was a bit like iPhoto, I wasn't exaggerating.
This new version includes Faces, the popular facial recognition technology
implemented in the last version of iPhoto. But Aperture goes a step beyond
and also includes Places, another special technology that geolocates your
images using the information stored in metadata by some cameras. However, I
have to say that this feature wasn't working properly: the map took ages to
load and controls were over-sensitive – which made map navigation a real
pain. It even caused a program crash while testing it. Besides these
organizational features, Aperture includes a bunch of interesting tools to
enhance your pics. You can tweak the image's balance, exposure, color and
light values, levels and more with easy-to-use slides. The so-called
Adjustment presets let you apply quick, frequent fixes to images in just two
clicks. Finally, the all-new precision brushes help you fix the problem with
extraordinary accuracy. Other features in Aperture I found specially
interesting were the possibility to share your images online in MobileMe,
Facebook and Flickr right from the program, and to create printed copies of
your photos – which always works as a nice present for grandma. Aperture is
an excellent photo application, there's no doubt about that. But in a way I
felt disappointed when testing this new version. I expected to have more
editing and drawing tools, and – why not – support for layers and masks.
I found the controls uncomfortable and hard to manage, and my overall

cancelled and brought back to life by Square Enix. Visually, Sleeping Dogs
contains both the clean and dirty look of Hong Kong. The on-foot level took
place in the streets and back alleys off the main street. With a lot of
non-playable characters (NPC) bringing the area to life, it was possible to
hear a lot of background chatter and noise. The environment felt real. There
was a lot of detail and background action, making the area feel alive. The
actual graphics of Sleeping Dogs are *stylized reality*. Featuring an Asian
protagonist, Sleeping Dogs had the possibility of using character models that
were cut and paste with slight variations. But from playing the game, all the
characters do have unique appearances. It was hard to tell with NPCs, but the
primary and secondary characters all have a great amount of detail. One
aspect of the level that stuck out was the lighting of the game. The darkness
was cut with streetlights or neon signs and they reflected off surfaces in
realistic ways. *Combat* The first section of the Sleeping Dogs demo featured
a chase sequence ending in two fights. Chasing the target through the back

jumping over gates or vendor booths, the action is fast-paced and not that

mixture of weak and strong attack combinations and counters. But Sleeping

like an air conditioner or trash chute. The animations are slightly
over-the-top, but the action is satisfying. Sleeping Dogs may be influenced
by Batman: Arkham Asylum, but feels independent and adds more martial arts
into each attack. It's also possible to jump kick. Jump kicking felt really

For professional reasons, as you can imagine, I'm always looking for better
ways to make screenshots, particularly from webpages. The last one I've found
is FireShot, a great Firefox extension which, despite not being the first one
of this kind, it's probable one of the best web capturing solutions I've seen
so far. FireShot inserts a small button next to the address bar, from which
you can take a screenshot from the whole website or just the visible area.
The captured image is immediately displayed on a separate window in FireShot
where you can comfortably do some basic editing tasks. These tasks include,
for example, inserting text boxes, marking certain elements with the drawing
tool, inserting shapes or arrows and selecting a certain area of the image
and add effects to it, among others. You can also copy the image to the
Clipboard or send it as by email directly from FireShot. The only big
drawback I found was that FireShot doesn't have any Undo option. Each tool
has its own configuration settings, which appear on a floating window menu.
You can use this menu to adjust any changes done to the image, although
sometimes the window ends up being annoying because it stays a bit too much

*iCookbook* is a lovely *cookbook app* that showcases Windows 8's most
aesthetically pleasing features. As befits a cookbook, iCookbook looks
impeccable. All recipes are accompanied by a great high resolution photo, and
the search results (search is accessed via the charms bar, which in turn is
accessed by mousing over the top right of your screen), look especially good.
The search function is further improved by filtering options, and the *Stir*

on a website. Taco HTML Edit lets you edit both HTML and PHP in a simple and
tabbed interface. Taco lets you quickly insert specific characters and create
clips of code. You can also add any link, image, list or table. The tree view
on the left always gives you an idea of which document you are working on.
